Recapping MF X-10D V3

Pretty much business as usual inside the MF X-10D V3 with Musical Fidelity employing the same Jamicon 85C general purpose caps they fit in all of their gear. Changing these over for Panasonic FC capacitors brings about a very considerable improvement to the overall sound quality and here's what Rob Farnell had to say about the mods:

"I was not prepared for the sound from theX- D10 V3. I have just had a listen and to be honest it is astounding. The difference from before is amazing as whilst it made some improvement, nothing like it does now. If this is what you can do with the D10, what could you do with my MF 308CR preamp & power amp? Now there’s a challenge!"

Parts or upgrade can be ordered from me please contact me for Availability / Price

Undo the screws on both the front panel and rear panel and pull the board out from the enclosure as shown. (click on thumbnail to enlarge picture)
Remove all of the electrolytic capacitors from the board by pulling them upward whilst applying heat to the pads on the other side of the board.
Clean off the excess glue with a combination of screwdriver and isopropyl alcohol.
Mop up the excess solder from the pads with Soldamop (desoldering braid) and clean with isopropyl alcohol.
Fit the Panasonic FC capacitors and solder into position. Do not fit the output caps at this stage. FC caps are available from RS components.
Fit heatsinks to the transistors. RS part number: 507-4753. Use a Mica mounting kit, available from Rapid Part Number: 38-0210
Fit 470uF non polar output caps into position after fitting heatsinks. RS part number 768-497 (the yellow ones in the picture)
Heatsinks and output caps in position.
Bypass the output caps under the board by soldering a 220nF polyester and a 47nF Polypropylene in parallel with the 470uF output caps.
